INSTALLATION OF CYLINDRICAL BORE BEARINGS

INSTALLATION OF CYLINDRICAL BORE BEARINGS

Cold Installation Method

For small cylindrical bore bearings or those with a small interference fit, the cold installation method can be adopted. Steadily slide the bearing onto the journal. Use a suitable sleeve (the inner diameter of the sleeve should be slightly larger than the journal diameter, and the outer diameter should be slightly smaller than the inner ring outer diameter of the bearing). Gently tap the sleeve with a hammer to slowly install the bearing onto the journal. When tapping, pay attention to applying force evenly to avoid tilting the bearing. At the same time, continuously observe the installation position of the bearing to ensure it is installed in place. When the inner ring of the bearing is in close contact with the shaft shoulder, the installation is completed.

Hot Installation Method

For large cylindrical bore bearings or those with a large interference fit, the hot installation method is more suitable. First, heat the bearing using an induction heater or an oil bath heating device. The heating temperature is generally controlled between 80°C and 120°C, and the heating time depends on the size and material of the bearing. During the heating process, use a thermometer to monitor the temperature of the bearing in real-time to avoid overheating and causing the bearing to anneal. When the bearing is heated to the specified temperature, quickly take it out and steadily slide it onto the journal. Due to the thermal expansion of the bearing, the installation is relatively easy at this time. After the installation is completed, let the bearing cool naturally so that its inner diameter shrinks and closely fits on the journal.
